Josh sent me the link to the trailer for the upcoming film of Maurice Sendak’s amazing book. As I sat and watched the trailer, noticing James Gandolfini’s voice, tears were rolling down my cheek. I started to think about why and few things came to my mind, but for some reason the ending clip in this trailer of them all howling off the edge of the cliff really sent me over the edge.
A few things come to mind really fast, childhood wasn’t so easy for me, between divorces, adoption, avaricious step-mothers, floods, fires, and a lot of other bad things it can be hard to look back and think of those times as happy. Maybe I am just like other kids, I dont know.
I also start to think about life right now; it is complicated, lay-offs, downsizing, foreclosures, bad economic news, deaths in the family, stress, stress, and more stress. Remember how the worst thing in the world was being sent to you room and all you had to do was imagine your way out of it? Don’t you wish that is how you could solve some of your problems now?
My whole world view was set by this book:
- when bored, put on a costume and dance around
- when yelled at for making too much noise in step one, and forced into reality, dont be happy about it
- when the reality is handed down simply close your eyes and imagine where you want to be
- but be careful, when you get there, there are always unintended consequences
- those who love you will always welcome you back!
I cannot wait to see this movie!
