Josh and I went up to visit Storm King Art Center on Sunday. It was a rainy day, but I was enticed by the spin they put on it. Something like, ‘the art looks different in the rain.’ I thought, you know I bet it does. After about an hour drive we arrived, payed the 20$ and were roaming around in the the pouring rain.
The good news is that there are trams you can jump on and off to help you navigate the nearly 500 acres of sculptures. But there is a lot to be said for wandering through the woods on foot. It allows for some nifty reveals as you are drawn in the by the thought put into the landscape architecture.
We emerged from the woods to the start of a large distributed Richard Serra installation, and around another corner were a set of Calder pieces.
It is very hard to pick a favorite, because this kind of art is, in general, my favorite! I have, however, been a fan of Louise Nevelson since I was a child and learned about her in art class. She was a Jew in Maine, something I can relate to.
