My Image of Love

It may surprise people that I am a very visual thinking. I once had a whiteboard at home and use one at all the time. I can recall diagrams and maps simply by closing my eyes. This also leads to some interesting visualizations of complex non-concrete topics.

I also have a love for trees. They are simply the most magical and mystical things I can imagine on earth – reaching high into the sky, way down into the ground, powerful symbols of life and trouble at that same time. There is no metaphor a tree cannot be part of!

If you combine these two things, you end up with my conception of love. It is actually kind of simple and kind of gory at the same time.

You meet someone and their soul plants a seed into your soul that then grows into a tree with its roots around your soul. It is a wonderful living thing that doesn’t take from you, the host, but actually helps feed the soul, even sometimes nurturing it enough o close up old wounds.

There is a bad part of this as well, when you fight or have troubles, it hurts your soul because the tree is being tugged out and the roots are straining to stay in place.

These tree/soul wounds can too heal with the proper attention. If not, they tree dies or is ripped out forcibly, leaving the gaping hole we have all felt when love leaves us wounded by the cruelty only it can inflict.
