In the shower this morning I thought of an odd nexus: If our perception of time is linear because of an imposed construct which highlights both the power and limits of our perception then any observation we make about the world is only a truth in as much as it conveys combined legitimacy not unlike that which, as I have written about before, a new country must obtain in order function and prosper. This highlights the deep need to understand legitimacy in a way that is complex and nonfinite much the way speculations into the nature of quality are made in books like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. This, however, is only the tip of the iceberg; it also suggests that there is a possibility of the existence of the soul. You can assume the feeling of quality and the feeling of the soul are very similar or are derived in a similarly deep transcendent but innate manner. It is as if our perception of time is very well conserved across the species, but our perception of the soul is not, so some people cannot or do not perceive it. This also means that the mechanisms around the nature of the soul through action and the ability to create quality must be similar. I should be clearer, the terms legitimate and quality are very closely related in my mind, i.e. something that is legitimate also is of a high quality and vice versa. It also must follow that religion is the attempt to enforce conformity on the perception of the soul to convey upon it conserved collected legitimacy. I don’t know where I am going with this, but it just struck me as odd that these running thoughts actually are related in a very profound way.
